Gwenom

Photography by John Nettles Jr.

Why I chose to make this costume:

In case you don’t know me that well, I am obsessed with all things Spider-Gwen and also Rico Renzi’s art. When the artwork for Gwenom was revealed to the world, I knew I needed this costume to become a reality.

Thoughts on this costume:

Aside from the design, I was really excited for the challenge of making sure the tongue was a part of this outfit. Rather than making the entire thing, I chose to buy a lot of the base parts for this and heavily modify them to suit my needs. Sometimes you just need a low stakes project. The vest was the most fun to bring to life. The base vest was from Amazon, and I installed a Worbla structure beneath the shoulders to support the giant spikes. The hood was designed and attached by myself along with the tongue, which was made to be bendable for a more lifelike feeling. Probably the coolest thing about this costume though was getting to do an evening photoshoot in Charlotte with John who initially got me hooked on Gwen. And of course getting to take pictures with Rico at Hero’s Con.
