Cruella de Vil

Cruella inspired by Hayden Williams
Why I chose to make this costume:
Some people will argue that Cruella is the most evil of villains because she wanted to kill puppies. Maybe that is true, but I’ve always really loved her backstory. She was a fashion designer who got a bit carried away fort he love of her work. When I saw Hayden Williams’ more fashionista version of her I had to bring it to life. I’m not a very “evil” person by nature, so the higher end fashion version of her possibly before her killing puppy days was perfect for me.
My thoughts on this costume:
I will start by saying this costume was completely bought except for the hat, which I made myself. The two key elements of this costume for me would obviously be the coat and the car. I scoured Craigslist for about a month looking for fur coats. I really didn’t want this to be fake, but I also really didn’t want to go broke on real fur. One day I got lucky. I found this authentic, white rabbit fur coat go up for $30! It must have been a dream. What a steal for such a timeless staple.
The car wasn’t really a necessity, I suppose, but my favorite part of cosplaying is bringing the character’s story to life. I really wanted to do this shoot with a dalmatian, but they are hard to come by (if you find one and want to shoot let me know!). When I saw this car I begged Joe to convince the owner to let us use it for our shoot. Cruella’s car is another part of the reason I love her character.
