Marvelception

I felt like it was fitting to make my comeback to blogging with quite possibly the coolest thing that has happened to me in 2019.

First, the elephant in the room: Sadie you haven’t blogged in almost 6 months. What happened? Where have you been? The truth of it is, for those of you that don’t already know, my dad passed away pretty unexpectedly in May, and blogging fell off the priorities list. I’m not ready to talk about it in detail here, and I’m not going to apologize for it. Therefore, instead of an explanation, you’re getting something happy because that is what I want and need to focus on right now. I may write about everything at some point, but for now, I just miss writing and this blog. Thank you for sticking around, and being respectful.

So, something happy… And also, completely unexpected. Two weeks before DragonCon 2019, it was 8:30AM on a Monday morning. I am neither a morning person or a Monday person, and my phone starts BLOWING UP. I did not expect to be crying at my desk when I opened up my phone to messages about a post my friend Patrick Sun had posted to Facebook.

The DragonCon banners were up in downtown Atlanta, and alongside Nonbinate, I was on them! Writing about this now is even still such a surreal feeling.

To answer some questions I get often:

  • This was a complete shock. I had no idea before the banners were up.
  • I was not paid for this opportunity.
  • I was not credited for this opportunity.
  • This is OK. DragonCon has “official photographers” for the convention, and they always let you know that if they take your photo it could be used for promotional purposes. Many conventions have a clause that says this when you buy your badge as well for photos taken at their events.

Fast forward to DragonCon, of course Captain Marvel quickly got added to the lineup. I was able to meet up with Zoom Click Pow, who took the original photo, to take a very special photo seen below. Thank you for stopping me last minute in 2018, and thank you for making time for me again this year.

Of course, the convention is over, and everyone is probably sick of hearing about this, but it literally has been one of the coolest things that has happened to me this year. Also, a couple weeks ago, I received a very special package in the mail from DragonCon. I have posted a video of the unboxing on my YouTube channel (which I’m also slowly trying to revive).

I wanted to write the extra post to go with the video because alongside this spring, I had been dealing with some minor health issues, and wasn’t really excited about DragonCon. This was kind of like a sign (also a literal sign) for me that things are looking up. Thank you to DragonCon for making me come out of that darkness. Thank you to Patrick for sharing the first sightings. Thank you to all my friends who made me feel extra special about this once in a lifetime experience. It really has helped me have a change in attitude about a lot of things.

Until next DragonCon, Excelsior!

That’s amazing to be on a banner! I’d probably never shut up about it LOL
