Shifting Perspective

We constantly learn more about ourselves as we get older. Older and wiser they say. I have had a lot of opportunity to grow and learn over the course of 2017. Some of this growth is a result of events that were out of my control, and some of it is because I’ve actively been seeking answers.

I mentioned a long while ago that I had some big things planned, and I finally feel like I’m ready to start attacking that sentiment. This post is more of an open diary for me to get some of my thoughts out there, and I just want to share with you what’s been on my mind. Writing this post was extremely difficult because change is intimidating, but that is how we improve. Shockingly enough, this is not my end of the year wrap up as much as it might sound that way.

Sadie by Design: A Personal Brand

When I came up with the name “Sadie by Design” it was with the intent of creating a personal brand for myself. This name was created at the same time cosplay became my main hobby, but I had hopes for my brand to be so much more than just a cosplay driven initiative. Now, before anyone panics, no, this is not a post to say I’m quitting cosplay, but rather, my approach to this brand is evolving.

Cosplay filled a very big hole that was in my life when I discovered it back in 2014. I loved it so much, and I thought, maybe someday this could be a passion I turn into something else. When I made that decision I thought that meant I should try to be “cosfamous.” Now that I’ve spent plenty of time in the cosplay community I know this is not the path intended for me. Constantly campaigning for popularity in a saturated market does not bring me joy.

What I want to provide to you through this brand is a resource, inspiration, a role model, and I can’t do that if I’m spending all my time on social media trying to gain followers. Instead, I am going to focus on my content, which is what I should have been doing all along. I have found much more joy in my craft this year than in previous years because I have been doing what I want rather than what others expect of me.

By reawakening the personal brand aspect I plan on trying to bring to the table.  I am an artist, a foodie, a wino, a runner, an engineer, a superhero, a princess, a bookworm, a designer, and many more things. There will be some growing pains, but the goal is to start incorporating more me into Sadie by Design to bring you the best of the best. I hope you’ll come along for the ride.

How do you work through great changes? Do you have any tips for moving your brand in new directions? Leave a comment, and don’t forget to subscribe via email or Bloglovin’ to never miss a post!

Good for you, Sadie! It takes a lot of courage to change your brand, especially if it’s something you’ve had for a long time. I love that you’ll be posting about all aspects of yourself and can’t wait to see what you come up with. It’s funny you mentioned your blog and cosplay started at the same time; for me it was the opposite! I used to blog almost daily but when I discovered cosplay, I shifted my brand to focus more on that, and have been posting much less. This post is pretty inspirational, since I’ve been wondering if I want shift focus too ^^
