June + July 2017 Wrap-up
Surprise! It’s August already! I’m going to need you to slow down 2017. Thanks. I think since the last wrap-up I’ve had quite a few posts, so motivation to blog has been back up. This is great, but now you get two months updates in one post again because apparently I can’t be bothered to write my wrap-ups in a timely manner.
June 2017
I’ve been very fortunate in the last few months to be able to do a lot of work with the SC Upstate Heroes. I kicked June off with them at the Honor Flight Freedom Ride and Festival in Anderson, SC.
I finally got to see the Broadway musical, The Lion King at the Peace Center! It was a magical day filled with brunch, cocktails and me crying multiple times because I couldn’t handle how spectacular the music, dancing, and costume design was all in one sitting. This is definitely not a show I will only see once in my lifetime. While we are on the subject of awesome things I got to watch in June, let’s just take a moment to appreciate how completely badass Wonder Woman was. Thank you DC for not failing us on this one.
Looking through my phone, I apparently spent a good amount of time taking photos with and of cats this month. One of the cats I got to meet was Charlie during our UV makeup shoot with my friends Willie, Becky, Amanda, Sara, Rachel. Thanks to some car troubles I ended up getting to have a sleepover with them, and also had the pleasure of meeting new friends Kaylee and Patrick. It was such a great weekend that helped me gain a fresh perspective on creative collaborations.
My Aunt and Uncle stopped by to see me on their way to Myrtle Beach, and I was fortunate to spend time with them. We adventured to Spartanburg where we found donuts. Seriously, I need to find more time to go get Downtown Deli & Donuts more often.
I ended the month with more volunteer work at Roper Mountain Science Center for their Butterfly Days as Tinkerbell. Sadly, I think I’m going to have to remake this costume as it is just too painful to wear for long periods of time.
July 2017
The beginning of July was amazing. My family had a reunion over the Fourth of July at home in Indiana. I spent the weekend running on my favorite trails, and laughing with my cousins. The photo in the post is a picture of just the grandkids and great grandkids on my mom’s side of the family! I also got to see my little sister and my little little sister from my sorority while I was home that weekend. I miss them so much. They are the best.
My friend Logan was scheduled to leave for boot camp at the end of July, so as his going away present I had promised I would finally finish my Princess Mononoke cosplay (that I started 3 years ago…). It turned out so much better than I could have hoped for, and we actually shot it twice. Costume overview post and portfolio addition to come soon.
Then I got ambitious and distracted, and made a new Supergirl costume in two days. I wore her for our hospital visit with the SC Upstate Heroes, and for an event at our local Barnes and Noble.
It was my birthday month! All my friends helped me celebrate and make me feel extra special. And perhaps the biggest thing that happened is that Josh and I set a date and reserved a venue for our wedding, which I am not fully ready to talk about on here yet.
What’s Next?
In the near future, my mind is consumed with Dragon Con being at the end of the month. I will be working on my one big build I am doing for Saturday of the con. I am going to try to stream progress while working on it on Twitch, so follow me there if you are interested in that. A couple product reviews and outfit posts will be heading your way soon that I am very excited about. My best friend and I continue to train for a half marathon in October, and we are getting into the longer miles pretty easily. Really, I just don’t have very many complaints about life right now. Sometimes I’m stressed, but overall, life is good.
