April + May 2017 Wrap-up: Where have I been?

It’s hard for me to believe that we are about to start June already. You may have noticed it has been pretty quiet around here lately. This post is going to give you quite a few updates from where on earth I’ve been to why I haven’t been blogging, vlogging, or creating in general recently.

April 2017

From a blogging standpoint, April appears to have started out strong, but I will tell you right now this is because I wrote several posts in one sitting ahead of time. After those scheduled posts published I more or less disappeared. I didn’t even get my monthly wrap-up out, and so, let’s recap.

April really did start strong. I have found that spending more time outside has made me a happier person overall, and so April 1st I went on a 10+ mile hike with the bestie, and a failed attempt to start wedding planning put me back in the mountains at Bald Rock with Josh the next day as well.

In just a few short weeks Josh and I were heading home for Easter as well as his first trip to Chicago. Leading up to that weekend, my mom’s side of the family suffered three deaths within three days, and two happened on the same day. I’m still struggling to find the words to talk about this openly. Despite so much sad news surrounding the Easter weekend we still had a great time at home with family, and I’m happy I was able to spend time with those I loved.

Towards the end of March, my car was totaled by a major hailstorm that affected thousands in the upstate area. I thankfully had a friend talk me down from a ledge as the week we had so many deaths in our family was my last week with the rental car, and I almost purchased a car out of haste rather than due diligence. I still felt like I had a dark cloud hanging over my head when I returned to South Carolina knowing I’d need to find new wheels and no way to get around.

It wasn’t all bad though. The second half of April life was definitely looking up again. When I got home, my best friend from back home came through for an overnight stay on her way up to Indiana. The Growl‘s third anniversary party was a blast, and I got to drive the beer cart at the company golf tournament.

May 2017

I had one entire blog post through the month of May (not including this one), and I only got that one out because it was a Feature Friday I had put off for longer than I intended. I went into May needing to ask friends for rides, and I am forever grateful that I am lucky enough to have so many people willing to help me out. On May 9, I finally purchased a new to me, used vehicle thanks to the help and patience of a friend. The stress of buying a vehicle is something I don’t wish to have for at least another five years if I can help it.

Here it is!!

Honestly, May has been pretty good to me. After the car thing sorted itself out, I spent the rest of the month focusing on me, and getting back to a positive mindset by doing things I love with friends. We had a game night at our house the first night of the month, but I also let myself play video games for the first time in forever quite a bit this month. Free Comic Book Day was a blast. I attended the 13 Stripes Brewery soft and grand openings. Cosplay cafes at O-CHA Tea Bar were a nice break from the real world, and Momocon wrapped up the month nicely, complete with my new Catwoman cosplay.

Moving Forward

This is a rather long update as I took an unannounced, but much needed, hiatus from blogging with a promise to myself to come back in June as long as it felt right. After the family and car stuff I started to have a lot of great ideas flooding in. It is awesome having a sudden surge of passion, but it was also very stressful for me because I wasn’t prepared for it. Taking a break from everything also allowed me to get my act together. I am excited to finally say that I have great things planned for the road ahead, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

I want to thank everyone who has stuck with me through this rough time, and thank you to anyone who has sent words of encouragement or hugs my way. What has been going on in your lives? Leave a comment below, and don’t forget to subscribe via email or Bloglovin’ to never miss a post!
