Kubo and the Two Strings
Let’s be honest. It’s a little amazing that I’ve been pumping out blog posts because I should be working on my costumes for Dragon Con. I have been. Nonstop. Lately, writing has been a form of stress release for me, and over the past few weeks I have found that it has been my escape where I’ve had little to no alone time. Speaking of no free time, I got a little frustrated when Josh insisted we go see a movie this weekend instead of focusing on costume time all day. I ended up loving it as I usually do with anything that involves Josh. I really wanted to share my thoughts with you guys because I think that everyone should go see this movie! Before I get started with my review I want to just say that there will NOT be spoilers, so read on.
Kubo and the Two Strings
I like to think that I don’t live under a rock, but this movie made me feel like I do. Seriously though, I had never heard of it until Josh mentioned it. Josh had never heard of it until his favorite author, Patrick Rothfuss, tweeted that it’s the first movie he ever considered paying to see twice. Now, to some people that probably doesn’t mean much, but I have seen Josh completely drop everything he is doing and turn into a complete fangirl because we crossed paths with this guy at convention. The hype is real if it is endorsed by Patrick Rothfuss.
Here is the trailer in case you feel as in the dark as I did about this movie before sitting down in theaters to watch it.
My Analysis
My reasons that you should go see it are as follows:
- Stop motion animation
- Amazing voice actors
- Phenomenal storytelling
- Breathtaking musical score
These reasons are also why I was shocked that I hadn’t heard about the movie before it had been in theaters for well over a week. It was produced by the same company that did the Box Trolls, which was also a spectacular stop motion animation film. Truthfully, reason number one is enough of a reason for this to be widely known all by itself. Stop motion animation takes so much time and attention to detail that it baffles me that I heard nothing about this in advance. Then the voice actors. This film didn’t have what you would call a small cast with Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, Rooney Mara, and Ralph Fiennes to name a few. Surely those names would have got the hype up.
Moving onto the actual film itself. I’m just talking generally here. The story is beautiful. It is extremely original as well, which is refreshing in this age of the film industry. Did I mention I loved the Box Trolls also by the same production company? They have impressed me twice. I look forward to more from them in the future. Lastly, I am a huge fan of a film with good music, and they crushed it. If the film had been silent other than the music I would have still paid to go see it.
I hope I have convinced you all that you need to go see this film. How did you find out about this movie? Have you seen it yet? Did you love it too? Leave a comment below. Don’t forget to subscribe via email or Bloglovin‘ to never miss a post!

We saw this movie last weekend and there were probably 10 people in the theater. It is really a shame because it is probably MUCH better than any other movie currently out in theaters, and yet it is really under performing.
It is the best movie I’ve seen in a long, long time!
I agree with every word of this!
Huh….I actually remember seeing this trailer in theaters once and not thinking much of the movie. The few things I’ve heard about it though have been really great. AND if Rothfuss backs it, I for sure should be checking it out. Thanks for the write-up!
Anytime!
