Feature Friday: Thumbprint Photography
I have been slacking on my Feature Friday posts since I recently had family in town, but I’m excited because I’ve got new things coming your way! I’m going to try to start doing Feature Friday at least three times a month moving forward. Eventually, I am going to do a feature every week! Another new thing that I am adding is that at least once a month I will now be including a cosplay photographer in the lineup. Let’s be honest, we only look as good as we do because of the fantastic photographers that are willing to work with us. Today, I am featuring Thumbprint Photography as my first photographer feature because he does most of my photos, and is also one of my best friends.
What is your photography name? Thumbprint Photography
What is your name? Joseph Everson
What do you do for a living when you aren’t behind the lens? I am a full-time professional photographer.
How old are you? 32
When did you first decide to become a photographer? 2 years ago
What made you want to be a photographer? I love the challenge of capturing a person in a moment of being who they are at the core or who they are not. Ultimately, I love to tell a story.
Tell us about your photography style. Organic/sexy/artistic/raw/bold.
What is your weapon/camera of choice? I use a Fuji XT1
What is your favorite cosplay photograph you have taken? Explain. This was one of the hardest questions. I think that I would go with Snow White and the eaten apple. Everything came together very well in the storytelling. It already had such an Iconic feel to it, and the costume was so well done!
What is your favorite photograph (doesn’t have to be cosplay) you have ever taken? Explain. There is a lady, who I used to see quite often at the taylors mill in front of Due South Coffee who has the most amazing freckled face. She was sweeter than southern tea and quiet. One would probably never know that she anything in particular to say. But, I remember a time, early in my career as a photographer, when I was discouraged. I felt as though I was failing in multiple areas of my life. I sat down across from her and I really did not even have to say much; she was sensitive. I had my camera and I asked her If I could take her picture. She told me how much she did not like her freckles, but I assured her that I they would only make me happy. She consented and I took the shot. To this day, the photo reminds me of that night. I believe that I began to find myself as a photographer after that night. I realized that my goal in photography is to catch the essence and to tell a story. I desire, as a photographer, to tell story with light; and, in particular, by capturing a person’s eyes.
What is your biggest challenge as a photographer? To take the feeling of “I could have done this better” and using it for positive as opposed to a negative motivation to keep shooting.
Who are the biggest inspirations/influencers in your photography? My Sister, Natalie.
What is the best advice you have for models as a photographer? Let go.
What is the best advice you have for aspiring photographers? Hold on. It will take patience.

I love that you’re featuring the photographers! They definitely don’t get enough credit. These photos are fantastic. He really has an eye that is perfect for the dramatic tone of cosplay.
