Fabric Notebook

If you read my most recent post about getting my cosplaying under control then you may know that I feel my life lacks a little organization. Ok, it lacks a lot of organization. Since I am moving to a new room in the house for my crafting we are completely redoing it to be the best it can be. I have been scouring YouTube videos, Pinterest, and everywhere I can to get ideas for the perfect craft room.

I stumbled across Alana Owlet’s channel in my searches. She gave a very awesome craft room tour that I linked in this post. She’s so organized it’s sickening. Not really, I’m just jealous because she makes it look so easy.

One thing I really loved about her many ideas she shares here is her Fabric logbook. I’ve thought about doing something like this, but I never actually implemented it because I wasn’t really sure how to do it! She made it look so easy, so I am jumping into it. It would be really easy to put your own together if you wanted as well!

Materials

  • Notebook or binder with pages
  • Form of adhesive
  • Fabric swatches
  • Writing utensil

Putting it Together

I went ahead and made the front of mine really pretty because everything is better when it is pretty. After that you just need to take your swatches and paste them into the book. I added info about the fabric next to it. My notebook is smaller, so I’ll only be able to fit a swatch or two on each page.

Below is the info I am including on each of my swatches.

  • Description and/or brand of the fabric
  • Where it was from
  • A serial number if available
  • What I used it for
  • Any extra notes

I know this post seems pretty simple, but sometimes just finding out that someone else did it too is enough to push me to do something. Did you find this tip helpful? Do you have anything useful like this to help you stay organized? Please tell me about it because people know I need the advice. I really like this idea. Are you organizing the binder at all? Like, by color or fabric type or something?

I’m just putting them in a notebook for now. I think that if I end up having enough of it to fill the notebook then I will transfer them to a binder that will be organized. My guess would be color would be the best way to go since I usually start there when looking for fabric.

I’ve never thought of doing this. What an excellent idea. I have a drawer of faux fur and leather samples from my Astrid cosplay. I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of them. Just wonder if I still have identifying info to make them useful as reference still.

I know what you mean. I have so much fabric leftover that was from Hancocks, and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to find it again if I need it since they are going out of business. Too bad I hadn’t thought of this sooner…
