SC Comicon 2015 Recap
Before I say anything else, I wanted to give a huge shout out to my little brother. HAPPY BIRTHDAY G!
OK seriousness. I have been such a slacker on this lately, which is upsetting to me because I really want to keep you guys updated on convention coverage as it is happening. Lesson learned: get your costume done before the convention starts so you can hang out with new friends and work on blog posts before bed. That being said, I want to share a little bit about how AWESOME this weekend was at SC Comicon.
Cosplay: Let’s just start by saying that my cosplays went over super well this weekend. Saturday I went as Super Girl, and Sunday I debuted my new Cinderella costume (more on that tomorrow). Both of these costumes paid for themselves over the course of the weekend just by the amount of smiles that they brought to people’s faces.
From a personal perspective, I was really proud of myself because I conquered my fear of being on stage in front of other people and entered my first cosplay contest. The judges, Callie Cosplay, Miracole Burns, and Toni Darling told me they were really impressed by my outfit, which really meant a lot to me.
New Friends: On top of the cosplay contest, I made some new friends, judges included. Something I’ve learned in my few conventions I’ve attended is that the friends you meet there are genuine. Sometimes, I don’t get to see them other than at other conventions, but that just makes the whole convention experience even more exciting. The best part about this being a local con is that I met some awesome local cosplay ladies to exchange numbers with and hopefully get to know better soon!
Loot: If you follow my Instagram account then you already saw all the goodies I brought home from this convention. ECN Radio is a local podcast/nerdcast that I look forward to listening to in the near future, and their shirts were only $5 (they threw in a free comic book too). The awesome Cinderella drawing was commissioned right at the con, and I’m really excited about it. I also managed to find an awesome art print of Super Girl that will be a piece in my soon to be comic book themed living room.
Joe’s Studio: As always, a big thank you to Joe Everson for making this convention experience special for me. He was nice enough to have cosplay prints of me at his booth alongside his magnificent artwork. He also met up early with me both days to do my makeup, which was amazing.
All in all, this has been my favorite convention so far in the short amount of time I’ve been a part of the cosplay world. It has me really pumped for the other conventions this year. Oh, one last thing, I found this selfie on my phone of Chris Burns, and it just wouldn’t be right to keep it all to myself.
