Snow White
This is my first official Disney Cosplay!! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a little cray cray when it comes to the Mouse. Disney cosplay is a category for which I have many plans. I will accept nothing less than what I consider perfect down to the last detail for these characters. Now, that I have established my standards, I want to share some of the journey of the making of Snow White with you.
I chose to do Snow White as my first Disney cosplay to surprise my mom. It’s her birthday today! When I was four, she handmade a Snow White costume for me, and made my brother go as a dwarf. It’s the first Halloween I really remember. Unfortunately, my brother really can’t be a dwarf for me anymore since he is 6’3″, but I still love him.
Snow White’s costume has 4 basic parts when you break it up: wig/headband, cape, shoes, and dress with collar. I like to break things up like this because it helps me put things into perspective. The first step is always to buy materials to start your great work. I waited for what seemed like forever for dress velvet to go on sale, but it was well worth the wait. I managed to get velvet for her bodice and cape at 70% off plus an extra 25% of with a coupon (originally $30/yard!). The rest of the fabrics used for the dress and cape were satins and lining. I managed to complete her cape in two days time. The dress took a few weeks due to schedule constraints, but didn’t prove to be extremely difficult.
Finding the perfect wig on eBay was easy enough. It was a steal at $12 with free shipping. I was a little upset when it came with a bow that wasn’t advertised glued into the hair. Luckily, it was easy enough to shimmy out without damaging the wig. I used a headband I already owned to transform it into her red bow using leftover fabric from the cape.
Shoes. After having altered shoes for Super Girl and Snow White I have decided that making shoes is my favorite part of cosplay (anyone who has seen my shoe collection would not be shocked by this). I ALWAYS try to find a base shoe at thrift stores since you can usually find what you need for less than $10. I was lucky to find the perfect base for Snow White’s shoes for $3. I simply used all purpose acrylic paint to change them from off-white to yellow, and made bows for them which were applied with hot glue. In total they cost $7!
This costume really helped me push my limits in sewing, and really helped me see what I’m capable of. If you’re interested in the pattern I followed for this outfit I used Simplicity Pattern 2813. Wishing you a happy birthday Mom!

Thank you! I’ve found that winging it has really been helpful for learning new things and pushing the boundaries.
