Exploring the Old City

After our Game of Thrones tour of the old city we went to grab a bite to eat, and followed up by exploring  more of inside city walls. The tour is great for getting our TV loving kicks, but you can’t experience the old city of Dubrovnik without intentionally getting lost.

Pizza on the Adriatic Coast

In a make believe world I set my problems with dairy aside for vacation. I definitely am happy that I roughed it for the week to experience all of the wonderful food on the Adriatic coast. After our tour we tried out the pizza restaurant, Tabasco, that had been recommended to us by our Air BNB host. Of course, if you give a Sadie a pizza, she’ll want some wine to wash it down.

Lady Pipi

This probably doesn’t deserve it’s own subheading, but it’s getting one anyway. Our Air BNB host had recommended another place for dinner called Lady Pipi’s. I tried hard not to laugh because you never know when to take things seriously in a foreign country. After lunch we went off looking for the statue of Lady Pipi to find that it was definitely okay to laugh at her name. It is exactly as you would expect, and we found out Lady Pipi is a very masculine woman indeed. I was actually disappointed by this statue that was actually a non-functioning fountain. All of the fountains in the city provide clean drinking water, and it really feels like they are missing out on a great opportunity to not have this one running.

Diving into the Old City

If I showed you all of the photos I took of the city you probably wouldn’t want to keep reading, but here are some of my favorite parts of our afternoon exploring the old town.

OldCity_Undying
The base of this tower at the corner of the city walls was actually where Daenerys enters the house of the undying. I promise that’s my last thing about Game of Thrones for a while.
The basketball court seen from the previous picture has the entry to a museum that goes down into the city. There was a spectacular view from one of the windows. Sorry for the smudge marks on the glass.

My favorite photo of my friends in the old city.
OldCity_Laundry
Actually, this is one of my favorite photos of the entire trip. I just love the colors of the windows that match the hanging laundry. People hanging their laundry to dry was a very normal sight throughout the city.

I wanted to take a moment to say that we drank plenty of water on this trip, but water bottles are no fun to take pictures of! Even though the roads were winding and new we grew accustomed to the city quickly, and we could navigate it like pros by the end of our journey. Getting lost on purpose was the best part of our trip, and it helped us find love for it extremely fast.
