A Night Above Dubrovnik
Let’s be real. Jetlag is a real thing, but in all seriousness I don’t think it hit me until we got back. When we first arrived in Dubrovnik we had been travelling for 18 hours, but sleep was not an option. There was a Kendra to catch up with. Places to explore. In all the tiredness I think we were up until 1AM the first night there. Why? Great people and spectacular views.
What do you do after 18 hours of travel? Obviously the first thing we did when we got there was find our accommodations, get food, and order a drink. Kelly, without knowing it, ordered one of the most “traditional” meals that we tried while we were there, cuttlefish risotto, and Josh helped us order our first beer in Croatia. After settling into our apartment we went in search of our first adventure.
Cable Car to the Top
Most of the coastal Croatia that we saw in our short trip was wedged between the beautiful Adriatic sea and breathtaking mountains. Dubrovnik was no exception to this rule. The city has a cable car that takes you from the heart of the city to the top of the mountain. For about $7 you get a round trip. I don’t feel like a cable car ride needs much more explanation than that. Oh, did I mention the views were spectacular? Make sure you read through the entire post because I saved the best of sunset photo for last!
Dinner at Restaurant Panorama
At the top of the mountain there is an adorable restaurant that is on the edge of the cliffs. We had our first glass of Croatian wine while overlooking the night view of the old city. Once we were seated we enjoyed more wine ate a yummy meal under the stars. Shockingly, I actually didn’t take any photos of food while we were at this restaurant, but I had something similar to beef stroganoff.
Our waiter seemed to be very particular. The appetizer dishes had to remain in a specific spot on the table, or they would forcefully be moved back. I guess there is no way to explain how amusing his mannerisms were without having been there to observe. I’m happy for his peculiar behavior though because I think we have that to thank for the last surprise of our meal. There were these fancy little glasses passing by the table, which I asked about. I’m not sure if it was because I asked and he took it as a sign that he should bring some out for us, or if it was just something they brought out for everyone at the end of their meal. Before we knew it we had four little fancy glasses of unknown liquid served to us. The girls received a pear liqueur while Josh received a brandy. This turns out to be a very popular type of drink around Croatia as we found available it in every small market that we visited.
After we basically closed down the restaurant we made our way back to the cable car. We almost missed the last car down. Lucky for us that didn’t happen. Hopefully the pictures speak louder than my words here because it really was the perfect start to our vacation.
Have you ridden a cable car before? Where did it take you? What is the most scenic restaurant you have eaten at? Leave a comment below, and don’t forget to subscribe via email or Bloglovin’ to never miss a post.
