Free Comic Book Day 2016

It’s been almost a month, so now is a good time to catch up on Free Comic Book Day 2016. This was one of my favorite events last year. There were so many friendly people out just for the love of comic books. Even though I had been reading comics for a few months at this point, I would say that this event was really the benchmark for my true love of the art.

This year, I was lucky to be invited as a cosplay guest to Richard’s Comics and Collectibles in Greenville, SC. I got to spend my day with fellow cosplayers Amanda Finley and Hyperactive Hero as well as other local comic artists and vendors. I also got the chance to sneak away for an hour or so to Borderlands Comics and Games to see my friends down there. It’s pretty awesome that two very similar shops coexist so close together.

I’m a bad blogger, and I actually took zero pictures during the day, but if you were wondering what I cosplayed as, I went as Carrie Kelley. Since I took no good pictures, have a picture of me by Daniel Ryan Fotos.

The event itself was awesome, and let’s be honest… Free Comic Book Day is anything but free because I have no self control. Haha! So what did I get?

Free?

I did get a lot of free stuff. Being a guest had its perks for me during the day. I was fully expecting to choose my comic books out of the available, but Richard made sure to hook us up with all copies of what was available for the day. On top of that, I got a FCBD shirt as well as this sweet shirt from Big Fandom Greenville. I love free t-shirts. There was also this sweet poster that was one-of-a-kind for Richard’s FCBD, and he managed to bring me one with all of the signatures of the featured artists. The coolest part is… my name is on there!

Oh, this was a little bit from a different event, but my friend Josh Boroughs made me this awesome Captain Marvel for donating to his fundraising for St. Baldrick’s. Isn’t she amazing!?

Not Free

I guess these were pretty bad titles for the sub-categories of this post, but I couldn’t think of anything better. What, oh what did I spend my money on this FCBD? Well… I managed to make it to Borderlands for a while to pick up a sweet Supergirl trade that they have been keeping on hold for me for well over a month now. I also couldn’t get out of there without the next in Lady Mechanika and the first Gwenpool. I am obsessed with Gwenpool already becuse pink! My brother and I both love Lady Mechanika so far. I knew they had sketch covers, but who knew they had ADULT COLORING BOOK COVERS!! Of course I had to get the one with Robin on it.

This last photo is a little mixed because it does have one free thing and a couple bought things. I got a sweet print from Amanda Finley that day. I owe her a free print in exchange. I also bought my first Funko Pop. Yes, there are two there. One was for Josh. He absolutely loved the Fennec Fox from Zootopia. If you haven’t gone to see it you should. I had to get him the Pop when I saw it. I have been admiring Pops from afar for quite a while now, but I’d managed to stay away from them. How could you say no to how cute Gus Gus is? I had to bring him home with me.

Did you go to FCBD? What did you bring home with you? Are you interested in hearing reviews on the comics? I think I’m planning on doing a comic series on the FCBD comics. Did I make a good decision on buying into the Funko Pop craze? What Funkos do you own? I’m rambling… Leave a comment below, and don’t forget to subscribe via email or Bloglovin‘ to never miss a post!

PS. Keep an eye on that Red Lantern Ring I didn’t really mention. It might pop up again in the future.

Oh wow, looks like you got some great stuff! I was so bummed that I missed it this year :/ I’m already obsessed with DC Superhero Girls though, love that they made the cover. And yeah, you should definitely start a comic review column!

Thank you! I am obsessed with the DC Superhero Girls too! Supergirl is, of course, my favorite, but I love them all.
